OIG exclusion search
Paste your staff list and check everyone against the HHS-OIG List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE) and SAM.gov at once, instead of five names at a time on OIG's own search. Free for up to 50 names; nothing is stored.
Add dates of birth: the LEIE lists one for almost everyone, and it is what tells two people with the same name apart.
What the check does
Each name is compared with every individual on the current OIG exclusion list (the LEIE), which OIG publishes as a downloadable file each month, and with the individuals on SAM.gov's daily exclusions extract. It is a free OIG exclusion check for your whole list, not five names at a time.
Spelling differences, nicknames (Bill for William), swapped first and last names and added suffixes are caught. The date of birth then decides: the LEIE lists one for almost every person, so two people who share a name are told apart instead of flagged.
Results come back in four kinds: a match (name and date of birth agree), verify (a name match the list can't settle), same name but a different person, and not on the lists.
What to do with a match
Treat it as a potential match until you confirm it. OIG's own LEIE search can verify an individual against the Social Security number it holds; SAM.gov records list the excluding agency to contact.
Keep a record of each check and how you resolved every potential match. Plans keep that record for you, with a dated report each month.
Who has to check
Anyone who bills Medicare, Medicaid or other federal health care programs is exposed when an excluded person furnishes items or services they bill for, whether as an employee or a contractor. OIG warns that anyone who hires an excluded individual or entity may face civil monetary penalties, and recommends checking before hiring or contracting and periodically after; because it updates the list monthly, it says monthly screening best minimizes that liability. Many state Medicaid programs require providers to check every month. See monthly exclusion screening.

Monthly monitoring
Need this every month?
Save your roster once. ExclusionHQ re-checks it against the LEIE, SAM.gov and 20 state Medicaid lists whenever one updates, emails you when something changes, and keeps a dated audit report for every check. From $39 a month for up to 100 people.
Questions
Is this the official OIG search?
No. ExclusionHQ is not affiliated with HHS-OIG. It checks the file OIG publishes for this purpose, and tells you the date of the copy it used. OIG's own search remains the place to verify a match.
Do you keep the names I check?
No. The free check sends the names to our server for that one request and doesn't store them. Only a daily counter per connection is kept, to stop abuse.
How current is the list?
We download the LEIE when OIG publishes a new month and SAM.gov's extract every day. Each result shows the date of the copy it was checked against.
Can I check more than 50 names?
Plans check whole rosters (up to 100 or 500 people), add your state's Medicaid list, re-check every time a list updates and keep a dated report for each check.
